GIVEN :

What is the slope of the line through the points (-7,-8) and (0,4)

Choose 1 answer:

(Choice A)

A) \frac{-7}{12}

(Choice B)

B) -\frac{12}{7}

(Choice C)

C) \frac{12}{7}

(Choice D)

D) \frac{7}{12}

TO FIND :

The slope of the line through the points (-7,-8) and (0,4)

SOLUTION :

Given points are (-7,-8) and (0,4)

Let (x_1,y_1) and x_2,y_2) be the given points (-7,-8) and (0,4)  respectively.

The formula for the slope of the line through the points is

m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

Substitute the points in the above formula we get,

m=\frac{4-(-8)}{0-(-7)}

=\frac{4+8}{0+7}

=\frac{12}{7}

m=\frac{12}{7}

⇒ option C) \frac{12}{7} is correct.

∴ the slope of the line through the points (-7,-8) and (0,4)  is \frac{12}{7}
