Thar Desert

In between Aravalli Hills sits the northeastern section of the Thar Desert. The desert reaches north to Punjab and Haryana, down the coast to the Great Rann of Kutch, and west and northwest to the Indus River's alluvial plains. Huge, changing sand dunes cover much of the desert, receiving deposits from the floodplain and the shore. Because of the strong gusts that blow each year just before the monsoon, the sand is extremely mobile.
