What is the smallest number of weights (for below two cases) needed for weighing any object with an integral weight from 1 to 40 Kg? For example, to weigh from 1 to 3, you need a minimum of 2 weights - 1 Kg & 2 Kg.

Case 1: The weights are restricted to one side of the scale.

Step-by-step explanation:

2^0+2^1+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5=1+2+4+8+16+32

1,2,4,8,16,32 are the weights needed

40 = 32+8

39= 32+4+2+1

37=32+4+1

36=32+4

35=32+2+1

34=32+2

and so on
