The solids which when kept in open , form a solution ( saturated solution ) after some time are called deliquescent substances.

The property by the virtue of which a solid kept in open absorbs moisture from the atmosphere until it forms a saturated solution is called deliquescency.
------
An Example of a deliquescent salts is magnesium chloride .
Magnesium chloride is present is common table salt. Hence during the rainy season , the table salt absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and becomes watery.
NOTE : SODIUM CHLORIDE IS NOT DELIQUESCENT .
