centripetal force is the force which pulls the object towards the centre of the circular path of the object moving. For a planet, like in our solar system they have the center as sun. There is actually no source of this force as, for example we take friction, there is no source. If we look at the revolution of the planets we see that they don't get pulled inside the sun because of another force known as centrifugal force which pulls the object away from the center, helping maintaining the distances.
