Electrons gain their energy inside the atom of an element. To be more specific they get this energy in the orbit. There is an effect called TRIBOELECTRIC effect which create static electricity and by this they gain kinetic energy and possesses motion by rubbing. Also they can get energy by electromagnetic exchanges.

There are many sources by which electrons can get energy which surely and totally depends up in the nature of the atom or electron. If it is strong it can extract outer one's and many other nature.

Hope it will help you !
