The source of the kinetic energy is chemistry. It comes from the chemical energy of the white gun powder that converts it into kinetic energy in the form of a velocity mass vector. There's “gunpowder” in the shell casing. When that burns, it makes hot gas that pushes the bullet out the front of the gun at high speed.
