The sun. Solar. The sun heats up the globe with different doses of radiation intensities reaching different parts. This is is also called differential heating. This causes some parts of the globe to heat up much faster than others. The air above the warmer areas is then heated by long-wave radiation from the surface underneath and will eventually rise. When it rises, it causes a void, a low pressure system just above the earth heating it.. The difference between this low pressure system and another high pressure system(in this case areas that haven't been heated up much faster as the warmer areas) is called pressure gradient. The steeper this gradient is the more violent will the winds become and the more unstable the atmosphere will be. Now most weather, I think all weather), happens in an unstable atmosphere. But the source of all this? The sun, majorly. but also affected by stuff as earths rotation and local topography.
