The southernmost point of Republic of India is the Indira Point.


Location :



It is situated in the Nicobar Islands located the eastern part of the  Indian Ocean at 6°45'10″N and 93°49'36″E latitudes.




Situation :



Although Kaniyakumari is identified as the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent , Indira Point was further south till the tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean beseiged its area, partly submerging the lighthouse.



But now, geologists have researched and found out  that the sea is slowly starting to get back to its original position.
