The Standard Meridian is 82° 30’ E. it has been seiected as the Standard Meridian of india because india lies between 68° TE and 97° 25' E. The centre point is 68°7'E + 97°25'E/2 = 165°32'/2 = 82°66'E

But according to the internationai norms, the number shouid be divisibie by 7th half. The nearest number divisibie', by 7(1/2) is 82° 30' E. Caicuiation
82 \frac{1}{2 } \div 7 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{165}{2} \times \frac{2}{15} = 11

So, 82°30'E is the Standard Meridian of India
