The earth’s magnetic field is the field which extends from the inner core to the outer space of the earth. The standard value of the horizontal component of earth’s magnetic field is 0.4*10^{-4} T. The horizontal component of the magnetic field varies according to the direction of the magnetic field in that particular place. The angle of dip at the equator is the maximum and at the poles is zero. The magnetic field is in equator is in the east-west direction, so the magnetic compass needle points in the horizontal direction in the equator.
