Explanation:

When an oxygen atom is attached through single bonds with same or different alkyl groups on either side is known as an oxy group.

For example, structural formula of an ethoxyethane is CH_{3}CH_{2}-O-CH_{2}CH_{3}

As it is known that ethane group is a group that consists of two carbon atoms and five hydrogen atoms.

Since, two ethane groups are attached on either side of oxygen atom through single bonds is known as an ethoxyethane.
