The gas exchange that occurs when stomata are open facilitates photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert sunlight into usable energy. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is taken in from the atmosphere through the stomata and oxygen is released as a waste product.

Heya,
Stomata are the tiny openings present in the leaves of the plant which helps in taking in carbon dioxide and releasing of oxygen.
Each stoma is surrounded by guard cells which acts as a protection for that. The tiny opening mostly open during the day and close during the night to avoid transpiration, the loss of excess amount of water.
Desert plants absorb water at night so their stomata are opened at night and closed during day.
Hope it helps u......
