In atom there is a nucleus and three sub atomic particles - electrons, protons and neutrons .Electrons are negatively charged particles which revolve around nucleus in a particular discrete orbits or in a circular path called shells . Proton is positively charged particle and neutrons are neutral means neither negatively charged nor positively charged. Atom has many shells, maximum number of electrons in a shell is given by 2n* . For example - maximum number of electrons in first or K shell- 2n* where n is number of shell from nucleus so K shell is first shell. So 2×n*=2×1*=2. Bro you should also learn the following formulas:-

Atomic number= number of electrons = number of protons and mass number= proton + neutron
