Phosphoric Acid is a weak acid with chemical formula H3PO4. Phosphoric Acid is an acid-containing four atoms of oxygen, one atom of phosphorus, and three atoms of hydrogen. It is also known as phosphoric(V) acid or orthophosphoric acid. It is present in teeth and bone and helps in metabolic processes.

H₃PO₄ is called phosphoric acid, also called orthophosphoric acid.

  • There is a total of 32 valence electrons for H₃PO₄.  H (or H2 or H3) in front of a polyatomic molecule (like CO3, SO4, NO2, PO4). Then it's an acid. This means that the Hydrogen atoms will be attached to the outside of the oxygen molecules.
  • It is a colourless oxyacid of phosphorus.
  • Phosphorus is at the center and forms four bonds. One bond is a double bond whereas, the three bonds are single bonds.
  • Phosphorus forms a double bond with oxygen, and two single bonds with hydroxide, and one bond with hydrogen.
  • The bond length of P=0 is 150pm, and P--OH is 155pm, and that of P-H is 139pm.
  • It forms 3-D structure.
