Ticks and mites belong to subphylum Chelicerata and class Arachnida. Both have very modified type of legs. Sometimes they have ornamented legs bearing sensory and tactile hairs. Along with locomotion, the tarsus of leg has a unique sensory structure named as Haller’s organ which is used to detect odour and chemicals from the host. This organ can also sense changes in temperature and air currents. Also, ticks can use this Haller’s organ to sense infrared radiations coming from host. When not in used, the legs stay tightly folded against the body.
