subsistence crisis mean when the country is unable to grow economically because of rise in food price, and it is a kind of a situation of famine where people are near to starvation.

subsistence crisis is the phenomenon in which the prices of good rises rapidly and due to this rising prices and inadequate wages most of population could not often afford the basic means of livelihood .
this phenomenon is generally caused by economic factors which can be caused by either natural or man made factors

about 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789. This led to a rapid increase in demand for food grains but the production could not keep pace with this demand. Price of bread also rose.
