The substantive parts of the Indian constitution are

1. The constitution establishes India as a democratic republic. Hence, India cannot become a monarchy or a dictatorship under the Constitution.

2. Parliamentary democracy: India's system of governance is parliamentary democracy. Hence, the executive under the prime minister is responsible to the parliament.

3. Federal system: The constitution divides powers between the central and various state governments.

4. Fundamental Rights: Every citizen is granted certain fundamental rights by the constitution which is protected by the judiciary.

5. An Independent judiciary: The judiciary is independent under the constitution. It is headed by the Supreme Court which acts as the final authority on interpreting the Constitution.
