Sugar concentration theory is one of the oldest method.according to it during day, time the guard cells begin photosynthesis and the sugar produced during the process increases the osmotic pressure draws the water towards itselffrom the adjoining of cells due to endosmosis.

During day time guard cells perform photosynthesis and glucose is produced. This increases the amount of solute and rises the osmotic pressure inside the guard cells.
Adjoining cells have more solvent concentration.
Endosmosis occurs and solvent molecules move from their region of heigh concentration to lower concentration.
Guard cells become turgid and their thin wall bluges outwards. Diffusion of gases in and out take place.
During night time, the roots sense the shortage of water, therefore gradual loss of water takes place.
