The poet Pam Ayres wrote the poem with a news alarm in one morning when she heard about a pilot put the flight on automatic pitol mood and want to sleep. He was woken up by his other crew members when there was an emergency in the flight.
The poet hone through a series of thoughts one night while she was travelling in the flight. While the other passengers were sleeping carelessly she was alert, couldn't sleep at all. She was actually haunted by the thought that the pilot might went to sleep and she might have to wake him up. She started imagining that the pilot must have loosened his tie and putting his feet of dashboard carelessly sleeping like a baby. And he just have kept the aeroplane in automatic flight mode. After some time she suddenly woke up and found herself reached the destination.
Finally poet congratulate the co pilot and thought would be traveling again after 6 weeks.
