The symbolic cause of the deaths in the poem "The Cold Within" is the prejudice , malice and discrimination among mankind in various aspects like race, religion and economical status which is born and brought up in the hearts and mind of human beings from time to time. It was actually the coldness inside their hearts for which they were prompted not to donate their logs of wood to fuel the burning fire else they would not experience such a hellish fate. And the death was actually the death of human morality which provoked them not to reach the line of humanity.
