The term of a Vidhan Sabha is 5 years but during the State of Emergency, its term may be extended for a maximum period of 6 months or it may be dissolved by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The members of the Rajya Sabha sit for staggered 6 years with one-third of the members retiring every two years
