Explanation:

The phenomenon of bending of light when it passes from one medium to another is called refraction.

The basic cause of refraction is change in the velocity of light while going from one medium to another. Refraction is the bending of light (it also happens with sound, water and other waves) as it passes from one transparent substance into another.
