(ii) These newspapers published articles written by national leaders. Their ideas were communicated to people through these newspapers.

(iii) The people of different communities and places were thus connected by print media. Newspapers conveyed news from one place to another creating pan-Indian identities.

(iv) The nationalist newspapers exposed the colonial misrule and encouraged nationalist activities. As these were written in spoken languages of various regions common man could easily understand the content.

(v) When Punjab revolutionaries were deported in 1907, Balagangadhar Tilak wrote articles sympathising with them. He was arrested which provoked protest among masses.

Thus it is clear, print culture assisted the growth of nationalism in India.

The Portuguese were the first to bring printing press to Goa in the mid-sixteenth century. The first books were printed in konkani language. About 50 books had been printed in konkani and kanara languages in 1674.New forms were like people got to read novels which were written by European writers. But people couldn't understand it as they were written in European language. Lately many writes came up who started to write in Indian languages. People could read and correlate with the theme of the book and characters of those novels. Many other forms came like short stories, lyrics, essays and so on. Many writers even wrote books on women live and their feelings. Due to this writings many fathers and husbands way of thinking towards their daughter or wife became board minded. Then many women writers began to put their views through their writings. Very small books which were cheap were brought into the markets. After the revolt of 1857 the attitude of the press changed.
