Theme :

The poem is a comment on the social problem of deforestation. Though the poet is able to feel the loss (of trees that surrounded her vicinity), she is not baffled by it. The idea expressed is a complex one. There is a sense of loss but there is no lamenting because the departure must take place for the sake of nature. By not writing about the departure, she wants to distance herself from the spectacle of moving away of trees.

Answer:

The Trees is a short symbolic poem focusing on the movement of trees that are initially indoors but seeking to escape to freedom in the forest. The trees represent nature but also the nature of being - womanhood in particular. What makes this poem unusual is the speaker's attitude towards the trees.
