Answer:

The theme of the story Fritz by Satyajit Ray gives off a sense of mystery. It plays well with the deep-seated human belief about the supernatural. As humans we are curious about things that are beyond logic. Some even believe in the supernatural stuff. In this story, Jayanta is a believer of supernatural beings. His mind is stuck on the ruined doll. Suddenly waking up on his bed, he feels that Fritz, the doll of an old man has walked on the quilt cover placed above his chest. Though logically unacceptable. Later when the ground where the doll was buried is dug out, a human skeleton of the doll’s size is discovered. This creates an eerie feeling. Do ghosts exist? What does the author want to convey? This open ending of the story gives a thickness to the theme to set in properly.
