(a) The common name of CaOCl2 is Bleaching powder. By passing chlorine into dry slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 → CaOCl2. Two uses : (i) Used for bleaching cotton and linen in the textile industry and wood pulp in paper industry etc. (ii) It is used for disinfecting drinking water.
