Calcium Hypochlorite is an inorganic chemical compound with chemical formula CaOCl2. They are also called calcium oxychloride and the common name of CaOCl2 is bleching or chlorine powder.

(a) The common name of CaOCl2 is Bleaching powder. By passing chlorine into dry slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 → CaOCl2. Two uses : (i) Used for bleaching cotton and linen in the textile industry and wood pulp in paper industry etc. (ii) It is used for disinfecting drinking water.
