what is the title of the Passage 18?
Boredom is caused either by hard work or by monotonous type of work extended over a long period, If one is engaged in hard mental labor for a long time the mind feels exhausted, just as physical labor causes exhaustion of the body. Also, if there is no variety in mental work one feels fed up and after some time physically the mind refuses to do work with continued efficiency. Boredom can also be caused by a situation which is nauseating or by the continued talk of a person whom we dislike or on the subject that we detest. We experience a feeling of having been caught up and want to get out of it at the earliest, like the prisoner confined to his cell or the bird caught up in a cage. The mind wants to relax from the burden and pressure to which it was subjected. The cure for boredom is obviously to remove the cause. If one is doing hard mental work, he should refresh himself for some time and have intervals of rest and recreation. If the dull monotony is caused by the same type of work, one should have variety. Holidays provide the best sauce for a change of taste. One should enjoy picnics in the open countryside or go to the mountains. The pure and fresh air invigorates the body and the mind. The vast expanse infuses a spirit of happiness n the mind so does the bracing air of the mountains.
