What is the total current and resistance for a circuit that has a 20V battery, a 5Ω light, a 15Ω resistor, and a 20Ω motor all connected in series? What would happen if the light burned out?

Explanation:

R1 = 5 ohm

R2 = 15 ohm

R3 = 20 ohm

they are connected in series so equivalent resistance =

Rs = R1+R2+R3

= 5+15+20

Rs = 40ohm

V = 20v

current flowing in circuit (I) = V/Rs

= 20/40

= 0.5A

if light burned out then we wouldnt take resistance of light(which is 5 ohm) and thus Rs will be R2 + R3 = 15+20 = 35 ohm

therefore current = V/Rs = 20 /35 = .57 A
