Voltage is the same across each component of the parallel circuit. The sum of the currents through each path is equal to the total current that flows from the source. You can find total resistance in a Parallel circuit with the following formula: 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 +... Rt = R (t)otal.

resistance taken up together wether added in series or in parallel .. it is also called equivalent resistance in both the combinations .. they are taken up as total because by using the formula we calculate then and replace all the resistances of the similar combination by a single value taken up as total or equivalent resistance..
