From the dipole equation it follows that there exists electric field around dipole when charges are separated by distance, so there is flux through the surface which implies that there is charge enclosed in the surface (from Gauss law).

The unit of electric dipole is coulomb · meter [Cm]. The total electric charge on an electric dipole is zero, but its electric filed is not zero, as the position of the two opposite charges is different.
