The 38 elements in groups 3 through 12 of the periodic table are called "transition metals". As with all metals, the transition elements are both ductile and malleable, and conduct electricity and heat.
Any of the set of metallic elements occupying a central block (Groups IVB–VIII, IB, and IIB, or 4–12) in the periodic table, are transition element.
For example -
1. Iron
2. Mangnese
3. Chromium
4. Copper
Chemically they show variable valency and a strong tendency to form coordination compounds, and many of their compounds are coloured
