The turning point in the play - Merchant of Venice is the ACT IV SCENE I of the play as this scene basically changed the fortunes of both Shylock and Antonio. No one would have guessed that the shrewd and cunning Shylock would be defeated by the beautiful and witty Portia by a legal quibble. It can certainly be held as turning point in the play as it changed the course of the whole. There was a happy ending for Antonio and his well wishers while a sad ending for Shylock.
