Ali’s daughter's
elopement can be called as the turning point in the story. Ali was a cruel,
insensitive man before the elopement of his daughter; however, after her
elopement, he was dramatically transformed. Before his daughter eloped with a
soldier, Ali was a pleasure-seeking being. He was an accomplished hunter, and
loved opium. But the sudden and sad incident of his daughter's elopement
changed him completely. He became a very serious and sensitive man. He gave up
hunting, and his heart became sensitive to omnipresent love and the pain
involved in it. His only purpose of life was now to receive a letter from his
daughter. He died waiting for it.
