There are basically three major types of agricultural practices in India which is Subsistence Farming, Plantation Agriculture, Shifting Agriculture.

  • Subsistence Farming - In this type of farming, farmers cultivate small and scattered holdings with the help of draught animals and family members. The techniques used here are very simple and primitive. Modern equipments are absent.
  • Plantation Agriculture - This type of agriculture involves growing and processing of a single cash crop purely meant for sale. It requires many sophisticated techniques mainly Huge capital, large estates, managerial skills, etc.
  • Shifting Agriculture - This is a type of agriculture in which a piece of forest land is cleared, mainly by the tribal people by cutting and burning of trees further, growing crops. When the fertility of the land is reduced then the tribe shifts to other piece of land.
