Both primary ( herbivores ) and secondary ( carnivores and omnivores ) consumers are hetrotrophs, while primary producers are autrotrophs. A third type of hetrotrophic consumer is a detritvore. These organisms obtain food by feeding on the remains of plants and animals as well as fecal matter.
