Vijaynagar had many beautiful temples and palaces. Vithalswami and Virupaksha were most famous temples. It is believed that the city was surrounded by seven walls. Large pillared halls known as Kalyan mandap and vey high gateways (gopuram) were some of the salient features of Vijayanagar empire. Life size staues of kings and queens were the finest examples of art of sculptures.
