the coefficient of friction is dimensionless:
[force]/[force]=newton/newton=1

The coefficient of friction is defined as the force resiting the motion / the force pushing the surfaces together.
The units of those two numbers are Newtons and 1/Newtons. The two cancel out so there are no units.
