Population

Explanation:

  • The unit of evolution is population because it is the smallest unit that can undergo any type of evolution. A population is a group of individuals of the same species who live in the same geographical area and interbreed with each other.
  • Evolution occurs due to mutation occurs in the individuals in a population which is passed in the offspring. Then due to selective pressure, these individual are selected over the individual which do not have the correct mutation.
  • Therefore the population is the unit of evolution.
