Borax or sodium borate is an important boron compound, a mineral, and a salt of boric acid. Powdered borax is white, consisting of soft colorless crystals that dissolve easily in water. Borax is used as a laundry additive for extra whitening and in many cosmetics. It’s used in enamel glazes, as a flux in forge welding, as a safer pesticide, to put out fires, (although baking soda is usually recommended for grease fires on the stove, borax works just as well) and to entertain the kids. Borax can be used to make slime, snowflakes, bouncy balls and even fire colour . These could be fun things to do with the kids if the Internet is down (or even if it isn’t).
