Hey Friend

Dams are used to stop the place from flooding when it is high tide. Some are also used to supply water to mines, towns, farms and more places. The flood water is stored behind the dam temporarily and is released in days and weeks after the flood peak has passed.

Note:

In terms of natural disasters or tropical storms the dams may not be so helpful.
