A motherboard can also be called logic board or main board which is a printed circuit board that houses most of the components of a computer and also provides interconnection between them as well as power them up properly. It is a printed circuit board, usually multi-layered but it is not called just a printed circuit board as you might know that would be really confusing because there are so many other device that has printed circuit board inside of them.
So, the motherboard is that component which houses all the other necessary component and connects them. You will see CPU socket, memory module socket, Serial ATA & Parallel ATA ports, USB ports & headers, PCI,PCI express/AGP slots, whole rear I/O ports and power input ports on a typical motherboard. Note that new motherboards don't have Parallel ATA port and AGP slot.
Hope it will help you.
