Salt is one of the important raw materials for the soap. In soap manufacturing process, after the saponification reaction, soap is washed with concentrated brine solution (NaCl) to separate glycerin. Salt separates glycerol from water. Hence the "neat soap" is precipitated from the saponification solution by adding common salt.

Common salt is mainly added to the neat soap after the saponification reaction when the soap is washed with NaCl or brine solution in order to separate glycerin. It is mainly added for precipitation to separate it from theaqueous solution. Salt is also used in order to separate glycerol from the water.
