In the experiment for respiration in biology , the main aim is to show that plants release carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) while respiring .
soda lime absorbs carbon dioxide and turns milky .
so if the air from the jar containing the plant is passed through the soda lime , it will it will be observed that the soda lime water turns milky . hence we can conclude that carbon dioxide is released when plants respire .
this is why soda lime is used in the experiment for respiration of plants / animals .
