Hi , there !!!
when there was discovery of electron is going on by Michael Faraday.
a cathode ray tube is made of glass containing thick piece of metal called electrode was filled in it and when the high voltage is passed through electrode there was development of positive electrode that is called anode and negative electrode that is called cathode.
the flow of current of cathode to anode is checked by making the hole in anode and coating that you behind anode with phosphorescence material.
the zinc sulphide is used to determine the flow of cathode ray to anode by a sparking on ZnS.
so simply zinc sulphide is used to determine the flow of cathode to anode.
hope it helps !!
thanks !!
