what is the valency of carbon in organic compounds

It's always 4 in all organic compounds. It has two electrons in the 2p shell, but when bonding, one electron from 2s gets excited and jumps into the vacant orbital in the 2p shell due to which there are now four unpaired electrons. So it's valency is 4.
