Gold...,.@
The number of electrons in the outermost shell of hydrogen is 1, and when it comes to magnesium, it is 2. So, the valency of hydrogen is 1 as it can easily lose 1 electron and become steady. ... But you won't be able to find the valency of copper, gold or iron with this method as they have multiple active electron shells.
Silver........@
electrons per shell is 2, 8, 18, 18, 1. In most case the valency of Ag is 1, as the d sub-shell has stable configuration if they loss 1 electrons from s sub-shell. There fore the most common valency of silver is 1.
Mercury.......
There are some compounds who have variable valency and Hg is one of them! hg has a valency of +1 and +2 in +1 valency it's called mercurous and in +2 valency its called mercuric! Actually The Valency of Mercury (Hg) is variable..
