Hey there !
Given compound : Fe₂(SO₄)₃
When we determine the formula for a compound, we exchange the valencies of the cation And the anion and write them as subscripts. So here, the valency of Fe(cation) is the subscript of SO₄ (anion) and the valency of SO₄ is the subscript of Fe. From the given formula, 3 is the subscript of SO₄ and hence it is the valency of Fe.
Similarly, 2 being the subscript of Fe, happens to be the valency of SO₄ (not asked in the question, but just stating for explaining)
Hope this helps ya ✌️
