The valence electron present within silicon is 8, and in order to have a complete octane, it either needs to lose or gain four electrons.

Thus, the valency of silicon with an atomic number of 14 is 4.

This losing of electrons, however, requires high amounts of heat or energy.

Hi,
=======:
Here is your answer,
=======:
The valency of silicon is 4.
This is because for completing the octate rule it only requires to have 4 more electrons, hence its valency is 4.
