Step-by-step explanation:

22½° lies in the first quadrant.

Hence it is positive..

tan (2 x 22.5)=

[2tan (22.5)]/[1 - tan²22.5]

tan 45 [1 - tan²22.5] =

2tan 22.5

1 - tan²22.5 = 2tan 22.5

Let x = tan 22.5

1 - x² = 2x

x² + 2x - 1 = 0

x = [- 2 ± √(8)]/2

x = - 1 ± √(2)

but it is in the first quadrant so.. its value must be positive

tan 22.5 = - 1 + √(2)..

Hope it helps..
